Monster.com Practices Electronic Racism
This post is brought to you by Monster.com, screwing over minority groups for years, without them even knowing it.
Hi, I’m Jeff Taylor, founder of Monster.com, writing to you from my new Sirius XM studio, where I host “Electric Area”. I’m not here to promote my show, I’m here to defend Monster against accusations of something new called electronic racism, also known as institutional racism, a system of inequality based on race, but done digitally.
In a world where a white woman pretends to be brown-skinned to get a job, employers should enjoy the pleasures of institutional racism, without the bitter taste of public backlash. At my old company, we trick people of color by making them think they are at a website that practices diversity, while really letting employers easily segregate races and pick the ethnically cleansed choice they know best, fresh-looking and upwardly mobile Caucasians. Yolanda Spivey, a Monster.com customer tired of being black and unemployed, did something that should make any red-blooded American cringe.
Recently, Yolanda pretended to be a white woman, getting several phone calls, interview requests, and salaried job offers within seven days, as a white avatar named Bianca White, while her real Monster account got her only 2 commission-only position notifications. This little black devil is far worse than that poor Rachel Dolezal, who is simply confused, and apparently never took a sociology class.
When I write that Yolanda Spivey is a white pretender, I’m not saying she was in some alternative rock band 30 years ago. I’m saying Ms. Spivey should know better than to try to prove a valid point when no one important is listening.
Forbes contributor, Lisa Earle McLeod argues that Monster.com is failing by focusing on profits. I would rather THAT be the reason, than be accurately perceived as a white person who digitally supports racism in the workplace. It’s a good thing this Yolanda story didn’t get any national traction, lucky for Monster that she’s a second-class citizen!
There are two great comforts I have in life. One is that I got out of Monster.com before the stock tanked, and the other is that no one with any power cares about some unemployed black woman.
